Town Meetings, trips, and Back-to-School Night

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
On Thursday at our Town Meeting, teachers shared a wide variety of optional opportunities for students. Some are clubs, some are drop-in opportunities, but all provide the chance for students to express interest in a new activity. Students also may choose to run for our renamed Student Action Committee (formerly Student Council). My message to our students towards the end of our gathering was that life is more interesting and fun the more we are willing to give new opportunities a try. Students received an email from me detailing the activities, so that they can think a bit about what may be of interest. It is also OK if a student decides not to jump in this time around.

Getting ready for our overnight experiences

We are also gearing up for our Grade 7 Advisory Overnight and our Grade 8 Backpacking Trip. Parents will or have received a reminder about our “gear check” next Wednesday, September 7. This check-in gives us a chance to put eyes on the technical gear that students will need for the trip. Both overnight experiences are terrific ways for students to develop comfort and skills in the outdoors while building relationships.

Back-to-School Night

Perhaps most importantly, next week is Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 8, from 5:30–8:00 p.m. Back-to-School Night is an important opportunity for parents to get to know their child’s teachers and learn about our hopes for the school year.

Details
  • We will gather at 5:30 p.m. for an optional light supper in the Dining Hall; then, at 6:00 p.m., Mike Davis and I will speak about some of our school priorities. Afterward, parents head off to visit classes in the Middle School, following your child’s schedule. (These individualized schedules, created by your child, will be given to you at the entrance to the Dining Hall when you arrive.)
I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend. If you have any questions that I can help with, please reach out.

Best,
Bill
