A great first week

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman

A school is just a building until it is filled with students laughing, learning, and being kids! It has been wonderful to see the hallways, classrooms, and playing fields overflowing with young people. This is how it should be at CA!

Our teachers have spent time helping students get off to a good start as students and people. Advisors are helping their students make connections and build community, and classroom teachers are hard at work getting students excited about the learning that is coming their way between now and June. We also had a chance at our Town Meeting to hear from Dr. Davis about the kind of school community he is hoping we will be this year.

Thanks, too, to our parents who came to our first Middle School Parent Association Meeting, either in person or via Zoom. At the meeting, parents heard a bit about our hopes for the school year and the skill development, academically and socially, we are striving to help students achieve. Parents also learned more about our arts, PE/athletics, inclusivity, technology, and counseling programs from our program directors.  Here are the slides from our meeting.

Back-to-School Night:
As promised, here are the details about BTSN on Thursday, September 8, from 5:30–8:00 p.m. Back-to-School Night is an important opportunity for parents to get to know their child’s teachers and learn about our hopes for the school year. We will gather at 5:30 p.m. for an optional light supper in the Dining Hall; then, at 6:00 p.m., Mike Davis and I will speak about some of our school priorities. Afterward, parents will head off to visit classes in the Middle School following your child’s schedule. (These individualized schedules, created by your child, will be given to you at the entrance to the Dining Hall when you arrive.)

The long and short of it is that we hope the evening will give you insight into our program and help you connect with the teachers who will be supporting your child this year. I’ll also send this information your way via a push page to be sure everyone is in the know.

Communicating attendance information:
Any time your child will be absent or late in arriving to school, please send us this information using this email address: msattendance@coloradoacademy.org Thanks.

I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved and restful weekend.  If I can be helpful in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
Bill
