Final Upper School Coffee Chat follow-up

By Max Delgado
Here we are, at the end of finals week! We hope students can take a moment to savor their accomplishments this year, especially as they head into Interim, which will be their last adventure of the 2021-2022 school year.

To close out the week, the US administrative team hosted a Grades 9-11 parent/guardian meeting on Thursday. Topics included:

  • The big picture results from the FCD Student Attitudes and Behavior Survey, which we administered to our Upper School students last October. The survey is administered by schools nationwide and is designed to measure students’ actual attitudes and behavior with regard to alcohol and other drugs, as well as their perceptions of the behavior and attitudes of their peers.
  • An overview of changes coming to our academic program that will create new opportunities for students and faculty, specifically in English and social studies. As our early communication indicated, these two departments are eager to replace their AP classes with advanced options that will allow students to have more agency, go deeper, engage in knowledge production, and pursue multidisciplinary questions.

We know there were some technical struggles for those of you who hoped to join via Zoom, so we are offering a PDF of the slide deck for review. Our apologies for the hiccups.

We thank you for all you’ve done to support our efforts this year, and we trust next week will be fabulous.
