Fun things from this week

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
We had another good learning week. Here are a few highlights:
  • The entire Sixth Grade went to the aquarium on Tuesday. Feedback from the students (and parent chaperones) was quite positive. A big thank you to Sue Counterman and Erin Galvin for making it happen. COVID-19 adds some logistical hurdles to bringing to life this kind of off-campus experience, so it is wonderful when we can make them happen.
  • Twenty-five students participated in an optional American Math Contest. The AMC promotes problem-solving skills and gives kids the chance to practice the sort of analytic skills our program fosters. Thanks to all the students who jumped in and to Mr. Koza for making it happen.
  • We had a terrific Middle School Parent Association meeting on Thursday that combined announcements from the PA, a few words from me, and some great information about how parents can support their children to live safe and healthy digital lives. I’m hoping to be able to post the recording of the meeting next week, but here are the slides and charts. Thanks to Jared Katzman and to Travis Reynolds for putting the presentation together.
I don’t want to speak too soon, but the number of COVID-19 extended absences appears to be on the decline for Middle School students. Our hope is to be able to re-emphasize IN-PERSON learning soon and dial back on auditing from home. Hopefully, I will be able to send more details on that next week. Fingers crossed.
