Today is the final day of the first term. After Thanksgiving Break, parents will receive an invitation to view student grades and comments. Per usual, my recommendation is to view comments through a “what is working” lens. Students have worked hard this term, sometimes under difficult conditions. They have learned new skills and internalized content. Focusing with your child on what study strategies are working is a great way to support learning. Similarly, focusing on the effort that a child has put in helps young people connect hard work to achievement, a critical relationship.

 

Moreover, being at the END of Trimester 1 means that MONDAY is the FIRST day of the new trimester. Everyone starts with an “A” in every class, AND every child has the chance to be the student they are hoping to be. This is a terrific opportunity!
