The Middle School community is back together

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
It is difficult to compare this start of school to the last, but for fun, I will:

Remote vs. LIVE
Zoom vs. EVERYONE ON CAMPUS
10 minutes to recover from Zoom class vs. RECESS SEEING YOUR FRIENDS WITHOUT MASKS
And the list goes on…

The vote is in, and it is unanimous; we choose BEING TOGETHER IN OUR CA COMMUNITY!!

What fun it has been to share this week with all of our Middle School students. They have arrived eager to make friends, learn, and grow together as a community. Our teachers couldn’t be more pleased with how the first week has gone. We know that there is quite a bit of important learning to do this year and are eager to get after it.

Thanks to all who attended our Parent Association meeting on Wednesday morning in person or via Zoom (View slides here.). It was great to have parents on campus, AND I hope that having the Zoom option this year is helpful. Next time around, we will have a Zoom monitor to help field questions from that group and generally to help make the experience more seamless.

CA Connects: We have a big week coming up with our first-ever CA Connects conferences on Wednesday, September 1. Hopefully, everyone has already filled out the questionnaire and signed up for a 15-minute conference with your child’s advisor. Our hope is that these meetings will build connection and create a platform for communication throughout the year. CA Connects does NOT replace our October conference; instead, it is another way that we can build trust and put our efforts firmly behind helping students grow this year.
Back-to-School Night is a Zoom Event This Year: Back by popular demand (and, of course, the Delta variant), we will be hosting Middle School Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 9, via Zoom. We piloted this last year and found that it worked quite well. I’ll be sending you more information on the specifics of how this will work shortly.

Eighth Grade Parents ONLY – Eighth Grade Backpacking Trip Parent Orientation: On Thursday, September 2, we will have an orientation to the backpacking trip in the SADLER ROOM OF THE DINING HALL at 9:45 a.m. This meeting will also be Zoomed, using the link below. We are excited to be moving forward with this this experience for our Eighth Graders. At the meeting, I will share more about the trip and some of the logistics needed to get ready for our departure on September 22. I’ll send out a summary after the meeting, as well, so that we are on the same page.

Meeting ID: 970 7244 6985

P.E. and Sports Attire – Gray Shirt and Black Shorts/Bottoms for Monday: Just a reminder that students will be expected to return to the pre-pandemic routine of wearing gray tops and black shorts/bottoms for all practices starting Monday, August 30. Students have been informed of this expectation by their coaches. Students can either wear this gear to school, bring it in their backpack and change in the gym restrooms, or drop the clothing off in the visitor’s locker room before school.

If you have any questions, or if I can be helpful in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
Bill
