Finishing CA strong

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
We are hoping that Giant Relay Day today is good fun for Middle Schoolers. Giant Relay Day is a long-standing tradition and an important memory for many of our alums. Our combination of academics, service, and fun, we hope, will make it a special day for everyone.

I would like to give a shout-out to our Grade Eight Leadership Team. Not only have they done a nice job of supporting the Sixth Grade class and helping to set a positive tone for our program, but this month they have sponsored and organized a “friendly” cross-grade advisory competition. Grade-level competitions over the past couple of weeks led to a Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade champion. Competitions involved outside activities and mental challenges. Everyone participated, including students who needed to Zoom from home. Then on Wednesday of this week, the grade-level champions competed. While the competition was exceedingly close, the Seventh Grade, featuring Mr. Koza’s Advisory, was named champion. Congratulations, Seventh Grade!

With so much that has needed to be modified this year because of COVID-19, I’m appreciative of our teachers' and students' efforts to keep the FUN in school. This has taken the shape of advisory activities, kahoots competitions, kick ball, soccer and chess tournaments, and the first annual Advisory Championship.  Thanks, all, for making a challenging year such a fun and positive one.

Sixth and Seventh Graders will continue to have their regularly scheduled classes right up until 3:30 p.m. on May 28, the final day of school. Teachers report that students are doing a great job and are working hard on a wide variety of year-end culminating activities. Eighth Graders have their final “regular” academic day next Monday, with Capstone groups and challenges revving up on Tuesday. Eighth Grade students will find out what their Capstone Challenge is and who will be in their respective groups on Monday.
