CA Future City Team wins regional competition

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
Thanks to all of our parents who have been joining us via Zoom for conferences. We hope that you have been pleased with the efforts our students (your children) have been making this year, despite the pandemic, to learn skills, solve problems, develop collaborative skills, and generally become the best students that each can be. Being part of the conference allows, we hope, each young person to take greater ownership over their studies and future.

On January 20, CA’s Future City Team won the regional competition and are now headed to nationals. Future Cities is a national technology and engineering competition in which a team of students creates a “model city.” The event has five components:

-       A project plan
-       City Description and Essay
-       City Model
-       Presentation
-       Q & A with the judges

This year’s theme is “Living on the Moon,” and the engineering focus was Clean Water: Tap into Tomorrow. Collaboration and teamwork are essential to success. During the regional, three members of the team were chosen to answer questions from the judges. They clearly wowed them!

Congratulations to Seventh Grade students Kate Freeman, Adam Marwan, Liam McKee, Luis Diego Rodriguez; and Eighth Grade students River Hamm, Margie Timmers, Oliver Twite, and Lincoln Ward.  The team has been coached by Kathleen Kirkman and Jennie Kies. Good luck at nationals!
