Grandparents Day, lunch, and other updates

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

We are excited to welcome our Lower School students back to campus this coming week. Thank you for your support for your children and the faculty during the four days of remote learning this week. We feel very fortunate that we have had so many days of in-person learning in the Lower School this year and so look forward to being together on Monday.

Grandparents Day – Thursday, December 17
As we look ahead to the next two weeks, the Lower School faculty, staff, and I are planning and preparing to celebrate Grandparents Day on Thursday, December 17. The day will begin with a welcome presentation from Dr. Davis and me at 8:30 a.m. Each classroom will host a 30-minute session for the grandparents and guests to visit the classroom remotely later in the day. The classroom teachers will begin working with the students next week to develop the agenda for their time together. The master schedule has been coordinated so that class times for siblings within the Lower School do not conflict with one another.

Each classroom has a specific invitation that includes a unique Zoom link for the welcome session and a separate Zoom link for the classroom visit. The invitation will be posted on each classroom page, and it may be downloaded and sent to grandparents and guests. If your child does not have a grandparent available to join us, they are welcome to invite a special family member or special friend to join us as well.

Lunch
During the recent parent coffees, I shared our plan for lunch during cold days or inclement weather. If it is not possible for us to eat outdoors in our typical picnic-style fashion, classroom groups may eat in the heated tents on Stamper Commons or in the West Gym in the Athletic Center. In both settings, students are 6+ feet apart as they eat their lunch.

A HUGE thank you to our Lower School Parent Association Co-Leaders, Alyssa Clarke and Meg Braun, as well as our amazing Class Leads! Your continued support and communication have truly been essential keys to our success during this school year. And, thank you to each family for your care and support of the Lower School Faculty and Staff.

Looking forward to seeing you on Monday!
