Halloween Parade details for 2020

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

As the cooler weather moves in, please remind your child to dress for outdoor activities to include Physical Education and recess each day. We will move lunch indoors to socially distanced locations when the temperature is too cold for outdoor dining.

We are excited for our Halloween celebration on Friday, October 30. I have included the costume guidelines that were communicated on October 9 to review as your child prepares their costume for next week.

              Lower School Halloween Details

The Lower School will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 30. We know this is an exciting day for children and a time of high expectations. Working together, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable day together.

All Lower School students are invited to wear a costume to school for the day. It is not required; we recognize that some families do not celebrate Halloween. Students are expected to follow the costume guidelines below if they wish to wear a costume.

  1. Make sure that your costume is comfortable, since it will be worn during the day. We are requesting minimal make-up as well. Students will wear a face mask throughout the day according to our Smart Restart guidelines.
  2. Costumes should be individual. Do not wear a costume that requires more than one person to be present. All parts of the costume must fit through a doorway, and it should be manageable independently by the student. The costume may not take up an inordinate amount of space in the classroom.
  3. Inflatable costumes are not permitted for students, due to the possibility of a costume puncture or battery/inflating malfunctions. These costumes are also difficult to manage throughout the day.
  4. Fake weapons are not permitted (e.g., guns, swords, knives, hatchets, pitchforks, etc.). If it is questionable...do not bring it!
  5. All costumes should be culturally appropriate. Costumes should not reinforce stereotypes or be culturally insensitive; the costume should not make fun of real people, human traits, or cultures.
  6. Everyone needs to be considerate of the younger students. Costumes should not be too gruesome or have fake blood on them.
  7. We will have a Lower School parade celebration on campus; however, parents may not attend, due to limiting guests on campus. We will take many pictures that will be shared with parents.
  8. We will have an afternoon treat to celebrate as a class! Do not send any food or treats into the classroom. All treats will be provided by the school.
Have a safe and warm weekend!
