The Big Draw is back at CA

By Katy Hills
There is a crisp chill in the air.  Fall has arrived.  This means that it is time to dust off your favorite mark-making utensils.  The Big Draw is back, and Colorado Academy will once again be celebrating. Stamper Commons will become our blank page on Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6, from 8:10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day. Everyone is welcome to come together and make marks together, enjoy being outside, and to take a moment to celebrate creativity.

Founded in 2000 in the United Kingdom, The Big Draw is a visual literacy charity that promotes the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention. The charity leads a diverse program of advocacy, empowerment and engagement, and is the founder and driving force behind The Big Draw Festival – the world’s biggest celebration of drawing. The Big Draw manages collaborative research projects, campaigns and educational conferences on visual literacy, digital technology and STEAM. The charity supports professional and emerging artists through its national contemporary art prize, The John Ruskin Prize and exhibition, and through events, awards, and competitions, creates platforms for each and everyone who wants to draw.

The Big Draw Festival has encouraged over four million people back to the drawing board since 2000. It has notched up two world records – for the longest drawing in the world (one kilometer) and the greatest number of people drawing simultaneously (more than 7,000). It's estimated that more than 500,000 people participate each year!
The Festival is made up of thousands of creative events, activities and workshops across the globe hosted by organizations big and small; from individuals to entire cities.
In 2020 The Big Green Draw Festival #ClimateOfChange focuses on the relationship between people and our living environments and ecosystems; highlighting how we live today and the ways in which we do and do not harmonize with nature. The Big Green Draw is eager to help showcase mindsets and actions that proactively support positive symbiosis between people and the Earth. So this is a great year to bring your community together, draw, explore, get out and about, kick start a new creative you.
This year, we have come to realize how grateful we are for the campus we learn on and the people we learn with.  Our CA climate and our planet earth are both very important to us, and we can’t think of a better way to honor both. We will see you out on Stamper Commons.  Bring your own favorite drawing supplies, or use the materials we will have there for you to use (we will be washing them between every use).
