Steps if your child is absent or has an appointment

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
All,

We had another nice week in the Middle School. A highlight was the return of “HOT LUNCH.” It was great to see the eagerness with which kids ate some of Chef Paul’s favorites! We are also excited about Parent/Teacher Conferences next week. As mentioned previously, these are Parent/Teacher conferences—students only attend the March conferences. We hope it will be a nice opportunity to check in on how the year is going so far and plan together for the coming months. All conferences will be via Zoom.

Today’s blog is mostly housekeeping, as it is important that we are ALL on the same page. Thank you in advance for your help regarding the items listed below:

What to do if your child is absent:

Everyone has been great about being “extra careful” this year when it comes to illness and protecting our community, and we thank you as this is extremely important during this time.

Because there are a number of people who will need to know when your child is ill, here is the best way to communicate with the Middle School:

Send an email to
Helen Romero, the Middle School administrative assistant. Please include your child’s name and reason for absence. If you choose, you can include your child’s teachers and advisor as well on the email, although we will be sure to pass along the pertinent information regarding attendance that day to the teaching team and to the school nurse. Thank you.

What to do if your child has an appointment and needs to miss school:

Please try to schedule appointments so that a minimum of school is missed. That said, please email Helen Romero, the Middle School administrative assistant. Please include your child’s name and reason for absence. If you choose, you can include your child’s teachers and advisor as well on the email, although we will be sure to pass along the pertinent information regarding the appointment and what class(es) will be missed to the appropriate teachers. Thank you.

How to pick your child up for an appointment or for an early departure:

This is a bit different this year as we are asking parents NOT to come into the buildings this year.

You have already communicated the timing and reason for pick-up with Helen Romero well in advance, so the process is already in motion.

Communicate with your child about when the appointment is, so that they are ready to meet you at the appointed time by the Lower School circle. This is good practice for them.

When you arrive on campus, please call Mrs. Romero at 303-914-2567 to let her know that you are here and ready to pick your child up at the LOWER SCHOOL CIRCLE. Mrs. Romero will remind your child to go outside to meet you if necessary. Your call to Mrs. Romero replaces signing your child in and out of school the way we used to.

When your child returns to school from the appointment, they should go to Mrs. Romero’s office to receive a return to class pass.

Thank you again for your help with this. We take seriously our responsibility to take care of each child from the start of school to the last moment on campus. We appreciate your help with these safety procedures and want the drop-off and pick-up to go smoothly for you.

Let me know if you have any questions, or if I can be helpful in any way.

Best,
Bill
