Hot lunch, playground, SchoolPass, more

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

We had a wonderful week in the Lower School. It continues to be so exciting to have all the Lower School students at school each day.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
The Lower School faculty are looking forward to meeting with you in the upcoming week. Please share any specific topics that you wish to discuss with the classroom teacher prior to the scheduled conference. The faculty will also provide you with information about your child’s progress academically, as well as socially and emotionally. The teachers will also outline goals and areas of focus for continued growth for your child as the year progresses.

Hot Lunch is Returning
The Middle and Upper School returned to hot lunch service this past week, and it was a wonderful success. The Lower School is gradually returning next week with the following schedule:

Monday, September 28:
Pre-K – 3rd Grade: Sack Lunch
4th and 5th Grades: Hot Lunch

Tuesday, September 29:
Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 4th, 5th Grades: Sack Lunch
2nd and 3rd Grades: Hot Lunch

Wednesday, September 30:
Pre-K – 1st Grade: Hot Lunch
2nd – 5th Grades: Sack Lunch

Monday, October 5:
All students return to hot lunch service. Students continue to have the option to bring lunch items from home, following the school’s guidelines of what and what not to bring.

Kindergarten-First Grade Play Structure
Our beloved Kindergarten-First Grade play structure has endured some recent cracks that are beyond repair and unsafe for student play. We have made a choice to remove the structure in order to ensure the safety of those who play in that area. Caution tape and barriers are in place at this time, and our Operations Team will dismantle the structure within the next week.

We recognize what an important part of recess that the playgrounds are in a child’s physical and social-emotional development. I am in the process of collecting ideas from students, teachers, and families about re-imagining a new playground space. I will continue to share updates with you as we learn more about the future of the space.

Water Bottle Reminder:
Please remind your child to bring a labeled water bottle each day. The water bottle is used for hydration throughout the day as well as during lunchtime.

SchoolPass:
Thank you for completing your child’s health screening via SchoolPass prior to coming to campus each day.  When your child has an incomplete health screening, the school’s health staff must visit each classroom and either conduct a screening there in the classroom or ask your child to step out of the classroom. If you have questions about how to use the SchoolPass platform or have difficulty with SchoolPass, please contact Alanna Brown.  The school is using multiple and layered strategies to mitigate transmission of the coronavirus, and health screenings is one of those strategies.

Thank you for your partnership and continued support of the Lower School faculty and staff.

Kind regards,

Angie Crabtree
