New LS schedule coming as we prepare for full return

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

Thank you for attending our Lower School Back-to-School Night. The teachers enjoyed sharing their initial impressions of the school year and sharing their goals and expectations for their grade level program with you.

September 8-11
Please know that the faculty and staff are appreciative of the Remote Learning schedules you have prepared for the children, as well as your support on their Remote Learning days. As we have learned this past week (and last Spring), families are working diligently to manage their child’s schedule of when to log on and log off to follow the classroom schedule. In preparing to welcome all our students back to the Lower School on September 14, I want to share a change for the Remote Learning days during the upcoming week of September 8–11.

For the Remote Learning days–Mustangs on Tuesday and Thursday, Rockies on Wednesday and Friday–the students will log in to the class meeting with the teacher and students. The classroom teacher will communicate the class meeting time, as every classroom schedule is unique and different. After the class meeting, Remote Learning students will work on asynchronous activities assigned by the classroom teacher, as well as Seesaw lessons for the day. We feel that this will allow families to develop a more focused schedule for the two Remote Learning days at home next week, without having to toggle between off and on times via Zoom. More information will come from the classroom teacher or the Class Lead about the log-on schedule and classroom activities for the week.

Fully Remote Learners
For the Fully Remote learners, the classroom teacher will share information about academic times for your child to log on each day for the week of September 8-11. Also, beginning September 14, we will have a new daily schedule, and I will post it on the class page on Friday, September 11. More information will come to you, as the final details are developed next week.

September 14
Please read the letter from Dr. Davis about Lower School inviting all students to return to campus on Monday, September 14. As we prepare for return of everyone, it requires us to create a new daily schedule to limit the number of students within specialists' classrooms each day. For example, one-half of the class will attend Art while the other one-half attends Science, and then the next day it will switch. I’ll continue to post schedule updates on the class pages.

If Your Child Is Not Feeling Well
If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, we recognize and support that they need to remain at home. And, we appreciate everyone’s diligence in keeping everyone safe at school for the past two weeks. As the majority of students return to school on September 14, if a student is ill, please email the classroom teacher to let them know, and the child may rest and recover at home. Children who are home sick will not log on virtually to class. When the student returns to school, the teacher will provide the child with any missed work.

Late Arrival or Early Dismissal
Late Arrival: If a child is arriving late to school, the parent will call Ms. McKnight when they arrive to campus.  The parent will park in the Lower School circle, and Ms. McKnight will meet the student at the main Lower School door (that faces Stamper Commons at the center of campus) to welcome the child to school.

Early Dismissal: If a child is leaving school early, the parent will email the classroom teacher and Ms. McKnight the date and time of dismissal. Once the parent arrives to campus, they will call Ms. McKnight. The parent will park in the Lower School circle, and Ms. McKnight will meet the parent at the main Lower School door (that faces Stamper Commons at the center of campus) to pick up the child.

Transitioning from One Learning Model to Another (Full-time Remote to CA Flex or CA Flex to Full-time Remote
If your family decides that you would like to transition from one learning model to another, please call me to discuss a transition plan for your child. We will need to formalize the plan so that your child is prepared for the new learning model.

Gratitude for the Lower School Faculty & Staff
Thank you for the kindness and care you have extended to your children’s teachers for the past three weeks. The kind emails, thoughtful notes, and genuine care mean so much to them. Please keep them coming, as the teachers are planning and working to reinvent what school looks like amidst COVID-19.

As always, I am available to speak with you at any time about your child or to accept any feedback. Please feel free to call me at (303) 914-2554.

Kind regards,
Angie Crabtree
