Final Assessments During the Week of May 26

Jon Vogels
As we continue to adjust our calendar this Spring, I wanted to alert everyone to our Final Assessment schedule, which will take place from May 26-29. This schedule applies only to Grades 9-11, as Seniors finish their academic year on May 22.

In the Upper School our final academic week will look similar to the plan we followed last year, albeit remotely this time. Using our usual block system, each class period is allotted a three-hour time period. In some cases, teachers will give a traditional final exam, while others may give in-class essays; still others might have students doing final projects or presentations. Every teacher is expected to use some portion of the three-hour window, but start and end times may vary. (For example, a teacher may start at 9 and end at 10:30, even though the total “window” of time extends from 8:30-11:30).
  • Monday (May 25) of this week is Memorial Day. No school is scheduled.
  • Seniors will be engaged in some Launch Week activities during this week. That schedule will be distributed to Seniors.
  • Students in Lower and Middle School will have regularly scheduled classes.
  • Students who receive extended time will have that accommodation built into the time frame. In other words, a teacher may give a two-hour exam with the extra hour available for those students who get time-and-a-half for testing.
  • Upper School students doing portfolio reviews that week will be scheduled in consultation with their arts teachers.
