Update on Zoom School and Mid-tris

By Bill Wolf-Tinsman
All,

Thanks to everyone who was able to attend our final parent meeting today. I have attached the slides here. I am starting to get used to astronomical attendance rates. 90+ people! Truth be told, I am starting to feel like a Zoom celebrity!

We split our time between talking about how Zoom school is going (well!) and how the various new projects unfolded this year (also well). We also touched upon next year, recognizing that it is still too soon to know exactly what school would look like in the Fall, but that our priorities are to keep kids safe and do a great job of educating them–no surprises there. Mike Davis will be hosting an all-community town meeting in mid to late May to discuss some of his thinking about next Fall.

The final part of our meeting was devoted to a brief orientation for new and Fifth Grade parents about what to expect in the Middle School. The long and short is that we are excited about welcoming a new group of students next Fall.  It is going to be good fun working together!

At the meeting, I also had a chance to give a shout out to Jenny Wolkon and Ann Reidy, our fabulous Parent Association VPs and to this year’s grade level reps: Amy McPheeters, Holly Garnsey, and Emily Philpott. I have to say that one of the wonderful parts of my job is getting to work with fantastic parents. This group has been terrific, and I greatly appreciate the efforts each has put in to make this such a good year for ALL of us.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone that we have Mid-tris coming out early next week. Mid-tris are intended to give parents an update on what has been studied, and in broad terms, the general mark a child is currently earning. If a child is scoring in the C range, there is an additional narrative comment.

Per usual, we hope that Mid-tris lead to good conversations about what strategies are working and what areas may need a bit more attention in the coming weeks. There is plenty of time between now and the end of the year to make tactical improvements in performance.

Finally, I will be sending out a push page on Monday, giving an overview of May and how we plan to bring this “unusual” school year to a successful close. As you will see, it will be an action-packed month.

Should you have any questions, or if I can be helpful in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
Bill
