Mustang Meetups provide opportunity for students to share their thoughts

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

I hope your family is doing well and the sunny days are providing bright spots for you.

Mustang Morning Meetups
This week, Kate O’Donnell and I began hosting Mustang Morning Meetups with each classroom beginning with Fifth Grade and Fourth Grade this week. During these sessions, Kate and I provide an opportunity for students to share what they may enjoy about distance learning and what they miss about being on campus. In the discussions, students have provided many thoughtful responses.

The positives of Distance Learning from Fourth and Fifth Graders include:
  • having a later start time to school and sleeping later
  • balancing the schedule of class time and free time in their day,
  • gaining an hour of time by not traveling to/from school
  • having time and special activities with their families

They all shared collectively that they miss seeing their teachers and friends on the CA campus. They also shared that they miss their teacher keeping them organized throughout the entire day. It was exciting to hear the new interests and hobbies that have developed for students in the past few weeks. We have several students who are learning a new language, playing the ukulele, spending more time outside, baking, and creating art.

One Fourth Grader shared: “I’m very thankful that we have school each day to see my teacher  and classmates.” This was so nice to hear! The daily teacher and peer connection have proven to be essential in supporting our distance-learning model in the Lower School. I will email each grade level relating to upcoming Mustang Morning Meetups in the next few weeks.

Math Resources Reminder
Mary Singer, Math Specialist and Coach, has developed a math resource page for Lower School students. It is located on your child’s page. Scroll down and it will be located in the Activities section along with Lower School Library. Ms. Singer will continue to update the resources for continued reinforcement and challenge.

Wishing everyone a nice weekend together!
