Specialist Check-in Chats, math, technology, and more

By Angie Crabtree
Dear Lower School Families,

Thank you for your continued feedback relating to our daily schedule, class activities, and the specialist lessons and weekly Check-in Chats. The faculty and I appreciate your kind and thoughtful input.

Specialist Check-in Chats
The Specialist Check-in Chats are designed for the specialist teachers to have an opportunity to connect with students and follow up on any questions they may have about class activities. After the first week of virtual learning, students shared that they wanted to have the “live” contact with their specialist teachers. I have created a master sheet for each grade level to include the letter day, time, and ZOOM link. You can save the document and the links are active for easier access to the specialists’ ZOOM link. These schedules are also posted on the classroom teachers’ pages in the Downloads section.

Math Resources
Mary Singer, Math Specialist and Coach, has developed a math resource page for Lower School students. It will be located on your child’s page. Scroll down, and it will be located in the Activities section, along with Lower School Library. Ms. Singer will continue to update the resources for continued reinforcement and challenge.

Managing Technology
As I learn new information from families about managing technology in the virtual classrooms within your homes, I will pass information along to you. Some families created email accounts for their children so that they have quicker access to their ZOOM links, and the families also wanted their children to have their own account and password not linked to the parent’s account. And in doing so, this provided their child with access to Facetime and texting options on their device. In some grade levels, students have been invited into class/grade level group chats. I would encourage you to monitor these group texts if your child is participating in them. Kate O’Donnell and I want students to understand the impactpositive or negativeof what they share in a group text. We also want students to know that their parents are monitoring this, as well. If you have a concern about managing technology with your child, please feel free to reach out to Kate or me. We are glad to assist and support you.

Grade-Level Breakfasts
I have enjoyed the breakfasts with each grade level. The students’ bright and happy smiles have been a joyful beginning to each day for me. Please continue to share your feedback with the teachers and me. We are so thankful for your role as learning at home teachers to support your children in their new school environments.

With amazing gratitude,
Angie Crabtree
