It's Grandparents Day!

Jon Vogels
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year . . .”
That’s right: it’s Grandparents Day here at Colorado Academy!

Another long-standing tradition returns this Friday as grandparents of CA students visit the campus and spend time with their grandchildren in all three divisions. After a speech from Dr. Davis, the guests hear musical performances from all three divisions, and then break off to spend time in the specific classrooms of their grandchildren. They cap off their day with a delicious holiday lunch in the Campus Center.

Some people assume Grandparents Day pertains more to our younger students but the truth is we always have dozens of grandparents coming through the Upper School as well. They enjoy shadowing their older grandchildren and sitting in on classes. This year we are expecting a record number in our building.

Two years ago we shifted the date from pre-Thanksgiving to pre-winter holiday break. We worried the change might reduce the number of grandparents attending, but in fact even more are coming to campus now.

Our grandparents are important to our community in so many ways. For example, grandparents have given more than $100,000 to the annual fund the past two years. In all, 164 different grandparents contributed to the CA fund. We have grandparents who volunteer in all sorts of ways, who drive their grandkids to school and/or pick them up, who contribute to book and tuition costs, and who even substitute teach at school. Currently we have many grandparents who are alums of the school, and we even have 49 grandparent alums whose children and grandchildren have attended CA. That’s quite a legacy!

Grandparents Day is a great community event and a sure sign that the holidays are here. Have a great break, everyone!
