Preparing for Conferences

Angie Crabtree
 Dear Lower School Families,

The weather continuum was interesting to watch this week! As a native Tennessean, I was excited to see the snow arrive on Thursday. I hope I am still as excited to see snow in March!

The faculty are preparing for the upcoming conferences scheduled for Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18. Your primary expectation within a parent/teacher conference at the Lower School should include hearing about your child’s strengths and areas of continued focus as they relate to academic performance and social and emotional development. Also, the teacher may recommend activities for you and your child to practice at home for individualized reinforcement of particular skills.

I wanted to offer some suggestions to think about that may assist in organizing your thoughts for your time with your child’s teacher. Questions to consider asking:
  • What are my child’s areas of strength in the classroom?
  • What are areas of continued focus–academically, socially, and emotionally?
  • How can I work with you to support my child’s learning and improve their skills at home?
  • How well does my child get along with other children?
  • Does my child play with a specific group of children, only one friend, or alone?
  • Does my child participate in class discussions and activities?
The first trimester assessment report card will be available on Monday, December 2 to share information relating to trimester one curriculum standards and your child’s performance in areas of academics, work habits, and social relationships. Enjoy your conference time with your child’s teacher.

Thank you and enjoy the weekend!
Angie Crabtree
