It's Payoff Time

by Dr. Mike Davis, Ph.D.
Head of School

It’s payoff time. As we approach the end of another school year, and we witness the tremendous growth that a single year brings in our children, there is much for which to be grateful. As educators and parents, this is a time that we are able to see the results of hard work, the impact of great teachers and a great program, and of the investment in time, talent, and treasure that families make in a CA education.  Here are just a few numbers from the 2015-2016 school year:

Number of zip codes from which CA draws in the metro area: 73
Number of miles traveled by students in global travel programs this year: 76,320
Number of Senior Portfolio Shows this year: 38 (an all-time record)
Number of Outdoor Program weekend trips for students in LS, MS, and US combined: 24
Number of Interim Trips offered (MS & US): 47
Number of Private Music Lessons annually: 20,000
Number of athletic contests annually: 900+
Number of books checked out in CA’s Lower School Library this year: 18,082
Number of books on average checked out from Raether Library each month: 600
Number of student-created films in CA’s fifth annual online film festival: 40
Number of people who viewed those films online: 2,000
Number of apples consumed in the Dining Hall: 31,878 (7 different varieties)
Number of meals served per year by the Dining Hall staff: 195,600

You get the idea. Educating children in an environment where opportunities are abundant, and where a community is built around the life of a school means that children grow, learn, and thrive.  In other school environments, many of these things are considered “extras.”

Here, we know that our varied and enriched program makes all the difference.

How do we do it? It is our faculty who are the backbone of all that we do, it is the caliber of students who choose to be at CA, and to be sure, it is the involvement and support of parents. Right now, we are in the final days of a parent participation challenge for CA’s annual campaign. This campaign is what provides the day-to-day operational support for all these programs and more.

I know there are many times each year when we ask for your support, on top of the tuition that you pay. I’m hoping that no matter what size your gift, and no matter what your giving capacity, that you’ll add to our “numbers” to support our work. Our fiscal year for the annual campaign ends on June 30.
