Michele Norris is one of the most respected voices in American journalism. As NPR host and special correspondent, Norris produces in-depth profiles, interviews and series, and guest hosts NPR News programs. Norris also leads the "The Race Card Project," an initiative to foster a wider conversation about race in America that she created after the publication of her 2010 family memoir, The Grace of Silence. In the book she turns her investigative skills on her own background to unearth long-hidden family secrets that raise questions about her racial legacy and shed new light on America's complicated racial history. Before joining NPR in 2002, she worked as a reporter for ABC News in the Washington Bureau and worked as a staff writer for The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and the Los Angeles Times. She has received many of journalism's highest honors, including a Peabody Award, a duPont Award and the "Journalist of the Year" award from the National Association of Black Journalists.
