Giant Relay Race Called Due to Snow

Colorado Academy has called a SNOW Day for Friday, May 19. Our decision is based on the safety of all CA students and takes into account travel conditions across the metro area. The National Weather Service is calling for this powerful spring storm to continue to impact the Denver Metro Area through Friday. Wet heavy snowfall may cause tree damage and scattered power outages before the storm moves out of the area late on Friday.

Here is what you need to know:
  • The final All-School Assembly has been moved to today at 2:45 p.m. in the large gymnasium. We realize not all students will be able to attend, but our goal has been to preserve as many of our year-end traditions, including the reading of the seniors' names, in this gathering.
  • All relay races and the Giant Relay Race that were scheduled for Friday are cancelled.
  • We will run Field Day activities Lower School students on Monday morning, May 22 with the assistance of Eighth Graders.
  • The Upper School Boys Lacrosse Banquet for tonight is ON.
  • The State Baseball games scheduled for Friday in 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A have all been postponed, according to CHSAA.
  • Girls Golf Finals are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday and are ON.
  • The Semifinal Girls Lacrosse Game against Arapahoe on Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Peter Barton Stadium is ON.
  • The Winds & Guitar Recital for tonight is CANCELED.
  • Upper School Interim trips are scheduled to start Monday morning. Any adjustments due to conditions will be communicated by trip leaders.
  • The Middle School play that was scheduled for tomorrow will be moved to next week, and we will notify students. The play will run within the normal school day.
  • Some of our Alumni Reunion events will continue, and separate communication regarding those events will come from our Alumni Office.
We apologize for any inconvenience. We are sad to have to cancel a day that includes so many of our treasured CA traditions. Giant Relay Day is planned around mostly outdoor activities, and we made every effort to continue with that. The updated weather forecast and foothills snow totals have prompted this change. We wanted to notify families as early as possible in order to make arrangements. Please stay safe and warm, and enjoy the long weekend.
