CA Swim & Dive Team Heads to State

Congratulations to the members of the CA Women's Swimming and Diving Team, who took Third Place place in the Tri-Peaks League meet held at Colorado College in Colorado Springs on Thursday, February 2 and Friday, February 3, 2017.
 
The CA women competed against teams from Bishop Machebeuf High School, Englewood High School, Fountain Valley School, Kent Denver, La Junta High School, Manitou Springs High School, Platte Canyon High School, St. Mary’s Academy, Salida High School, and St. Mary's High School.
 
Senior Ali Altman took Third Place in the diving competition with a score of 362.7, and was also honored with being named Diver of the League for this season. Top scoring individual swimmers for CA were:
  • Sophomore Aly Gallagher, placing First in the 200-yard freestyle in 1.58:46 and First in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.66,
  • Junior Anne Younger, placing Second in the 100-yard backstroke in 100.37 and Fourth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2.20:51
  • Senior Arianna Goldman, placing Fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1.18:25.
  • Strong individual scoring performances were also turned in by freshman diver Kenzie Abbott and swimmers sophomore Gretchen Carpenter, freshman Anne Freeman, and freshman Savannah Siegler.
 
CA relay teams also performed powerfully in the League competition with the 400-yard freestyle relay team placing Secondnd (Aly Gallagher, Gretchen Carpenter, Anne Freeman, Anne Younger) through a fierce swim by Anne Younger in the fourth leg position to come from behind and out-touch two teams at the final wall, the 200-yard medley relay team placing Fourth (Anne Freeman, Arianna Goldman, Savannah Siegler, Alexandra Kaleugher) and the 200 yard freestyle relay placing Fifth (Alexandra Kaleugher, Arianna Goldman, Gretchen Carpenter, Aly Gallagher).
 
Of the team's performance on Thursday and Friday, Coach Beckie Mutz stated, “Every single swimmer cut time and tried so hard. CA’s team spirit was absolutely the best at League. We are a small team, but we have a huge heart.” The team is grateful to Coaches Beckie Mutz, Paul Augustus and Jason Koza for their coaching this season. 
 
On Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11, qualified team members head to the 3A Girls High School Swimming and Diving State meet held at the Veteran’s Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton.
 
Competing in individual events for CA are: Ali Altman (1 meter diving), Aly Gallagher (100- and 200-yard freestyle), Arianna Goldman (100 yard breaststroke) and Anne Younger (50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke).  Relay teams competing at the State meet include: Aly Gallagher, Arianna Goldman, Anne Younger and Gretchen Carpenter in the 200-medley relay; Alexandra Kaleugher, Arianna Goldman, Anne Freeman and Gretchen Carpenter in the 200-freestyle relay; and Aly Gallagher, Anne Freeman, Gretchen Carpenter and Anne Younger in the 400- freestyle relay.  Relay alternates are Grace Minton and Savannah Siegler.
