SPEAK: Francis Su, "Mathematics for Human Flourishing "

on Zoom
Lunch & Learn SPEAK Event

You probably think of math as a skillset to do arithmetic or equations. But math is more about building a set of virtues like persistence, creativity, and competence to solve new problems. We all have deep human longings, such as for exploration, beauty, and truth. Su explains how math fulfills those desires and how those virtues will serve you well, no matter what you do or what life throws at you.

Su is Benediktsson-Karwa Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College and a former president of the Mathematical Association of America. He has received awards for teaching and writing, his work has been featured in Quanta Magazine, Wired, and the New York Times, and his book, Mathematics for Human Flourishing (2020), is the 2021 Euler Book Prize winner.

This SPEAK event will take place on Zoom. Register now.
