Parent Association

Building a Strong Community around Our School
The CA experience is enhanced by active and engaged parents who champion the mission and vision of our school. Parents are encouraged to become involved in a variety of ways, and they enjoy connecting with each other and school staff through our Parent Association (PA) and many interest groups, social gatherings, special events, and student-focused meetings throughout the year.

Volunteering

Each fall, the PA hosts the Get Involved Parent Volunteer Fair where parents can explore and sign up for activities throughout the year. Online sign-ups are also available.

Building Community

Creating a sense of community within our school includes organizing popular events like SPEAK Lectures and generating support for a variety of programs including financial aid, our libraries, faculty/staff appreciation, and community outreach programs. Contact our PA for more information.

  • How does PARENT ASSOCIATION GIFTING work? (March)

Parent Association fundraisers throughout the year bring our community together and raise money that is gifted back to the school in two ways. We support a variety of school enrichment programs such as SPEAK, Arts Around, Library Acquisitions, Taste of CA, Welcome Committee, just to mention a few. These programs are supported on a yearly basis and are fixed items in the PA budget.

In addition to these programs, depending on the amount of money raised each year, there is a sum of money that is gifted back to the school to fulfill “wish lists” by each division, and the Fine Arts and Athlectic Departments. Each spring parents have the opportunity to vote for their favorite items through an online system.
  • What is THINK AND DRIVE? (April)

This program is designed to reach CA Upper School students with the message that it is important to develop safe driving habits. The activities are incorporated into the regular school day and include speakers, dramatic presentations and videos. If you are an Upper School parent please consider helping out during this event.

On May 11th Colorado Academy and the Parent Association host a beautiful lunch in the Cedar Garden, on the south side of Welborn House, to honor all parents who have volunteered throughout the year. There is also a special tradition of paying tribute to parents who have their last child in the current graduating class. Everyone is invited to attend this luncheon which is a celebration of the entire parent community.  Please watch for an invitation via email and plan to attend.
  • I’ve never heard of a GIANT RELAY DAY, what happens and do parents attend? (May)

Giant Relay Day May 19th is CA’s version of Field Day!!! This is an all school celebration, and Lower School parents are encouraged to attend to cheer your little athlete through the relays and obstacle course. It’s also one of the days where many LS parents are on campus, so if you can clear your schedule please try to attend. Eighth grade students help the faculty organize and run the activities for the LS, while the 6th and 7th grades take field trips away from campus for the morning. There are also relay competitions between US students, faculty, alumni, and parent teams. The more the merrier so please join as a participant or supporter and we promise either way you’ll have FUN.
