Seniors Nab Trophy in 2025 Giant Relay as Fun and Games Take Over Campus
- All-School News
The Senior team hoisted the coveted Colorado Academy Giant Relay Day Cup on May 23, 2025, beating three other teams of alumni, faculty and staff, and parents on a day that was filled with sunshine, fun, and games for all ages across CA’s campus. The Giant Relay, a CA tradition that can be traced back to the 1950s, once included a segment on horseback, but today sees competitors running, swimming, biking, and kayaking to determine a winner.

The multi-stage circuit around campus capped a daylong celebration that also included the All-School Closing Assembly, Lower School Field Day, Middle School relays, a new Middle & Upper School Carnival, a Lower School Carnival, alumni visits and reunions, and a picnic lunch prepared by Chef Paul Worley and his Food Service team.
By tradition, the morning All-School Assembly on Stamper Commons was an occasion to recognize the graduating Senior class. Students in every grade cheered as Head of School Dr. Mike Davis read the name of every Twelfth Grader.

Over on Slater and Newton Fields, the Lower School’s Field Day activities included the beloved race between Kindergarten and Dr. Davis, which inevitably concludes with the students narrowly edging out the Head of School. A tug-o-war, water balloon games, and other festivities were supervised by Eighth Grade students.

The carnival fun on Stamper Commons, a first this year, featured a giant inflatable slide, human hamster-ball racing, a classic dunk tank, cotton candy, and even an ice-cream truck.

While Middle and Upper School students enjoyed races and the Carnival on Stamper Commons, the Lower School celebrated with its own Lower School Carnival, organized by Fifth Graders.

Throughout this year’s events, CA alumni, some returning to campus for their 50th and 60th Reunions, enjoyed touring the school to see what had changed since their time as a Mustang. There’s no doubt many things have, but Giant Relay Day has remained uniquely itself for over 70 years.
