Riding inflatable hobby horses and sporting red-and-white bandanas to go with their t-shirts reading “together,” Colorado Academy’s Kindergarten Class of 2038 stampeded into the Homecoming All-School Spirit Assembly on September 19 to help the school kick off Homecoming Weekend 2025, bringing smiles and Mustang pride to the students, faculty, and staff cheering on Stamper Commons, all of them wearing their own “together” shirts.

“Welcome, Mustangs!” said Athletic Director Jon Hill as he stood atop the Schotters Music Center steps to address the crowd, “and thank you, Kindergarten, for reminding us all how important that one word—together— is for our school! Remember that the goal of this event is to celebrate our accomplishments, celebrate each other, and celebrate our community.”

Hill went on to celebrate members of the CA community who are rarely seen but whose work benefits the entire school. “Thank you to our Custodial team—we are so lucky to have them and are endlessly grateful for the support that they give us every day.” One member of the team, Hill pointed out, has been with the school for 41 years, “the unwavering heart and soul of our community. Thank you, Albert Archuleta—you have done so much more than keep our campus clean and safe. You have cared for it, nurtured it, and made it a welcoming place for generations of students, faculty, and staff.”

After the cheers for Archuleta and his colleagues finally began to die down, Hill saluted last year’s Championship teams—seven-time winners Girls Golf and Girls Soccer—and then welcomed to the Schotters steps the CA Dance Company with one of their signature routines.

Next, members of C Club kicked off a different kind of championship match—the 2025 “Kindness Games,” pitting CA’s mustang mascot Gus against Senior competitors; naturally, Gus’s exemplary kindness won the day.

The Spirit Assembly wound down with music and dancing, as students, faculty, and staff looked forward to Homecoming Weekend’s festivities.

Friday: Cross Country Inaugural Mustang Invitational

The action got underway immediately after the pep rally on Stamper Commons. Athletes, families, and fans headed to Wright Field for the Inaugural Mustang Invitational cross country meet, the first such competition held on CA’s campus in at least a decade.

Saturday: Sports, Bike Parade, and Carnival

Saturday was a full day of excitement for students, families, and fans. Both Varsity Field Hockey and Ultimate Frisbee kicked off the day by hosting competitions at home. JV Boys Soccer and Tennis were in action, and later Varsity Boys Tennis, CA’s five Girls Volleyball teams, and additional Field Hockey, Tennis, and Soccer squads took the field against visiting opponents.

For the youngest students and their families, the star attraction was the Homecoming Carnival, which opened with the traditional Bike Parade led by Dr. Davis.

Middle School volunteers ran familiar carnival games such as Ring Toss and doled out cotton candy to hungry crowds, and parent volunteers staffed the Harvest Market.

Midday, Chef Paul Worley and his Sodexo Food Service team welcomed all to a casual lunch of picnic favorites, served in front of the Campus Center.

Saturday evening, Upper School students took over campus for their Homecoming Dance, bringing an end to the weekend’s festivities.
