All Smiles at the 2025 All-School Picnic

The miles of smiles on display at Colorado Academy’s 2025 All-School Picnic on August 18 said it all. Families, students, teachers, and even little ones still too young for school were thrilled to be back on campus for the traditional kickoff to the school year. The many early arrivals proved it: No matter their age, Mustangs love an opportunity to gather with their herd.

The earliest back-to-schoolers were CA’s youngest students, who were invited for the annual Lower School Meet & Greet to say hello to their new teachers, see their new classrooms, and share hugs with favorite teachers from previous years. Old friends and classmates embraced, and those with plenty of CA experience did their part to welcome families new to the school.

Lower School Principal Angie Crabtree stood at the Lower School entrance, welcoming every excited arrival.

It was a thrilling but all-too-brief taste of the Lower School—students quickly migrated outside to the two Lower School playgrounds to continue their celebrations, and soon it was time for all to move to the Sculpture Garden, where families were gathering for the All-School Picnic.

Parents and guardians shared round tables decked in red-checked cloths while their children roamed the campus with their hot dogs, popsicles, and other goodies prepared by Director of Food Service Paul Worley and his Sodexo team. The historic trees in the center of campus provided plenty of shade for picnickers and reunions with friends, as those families with years of CA experience made it a point to connect with the newest members of the community.

Members of the Advancement team made sure everyone received their official CA Directory and Calendar, and the Security and Operations teams helped families get their ID badges and car stickers to keep CA’s campus secure.

The grins and hugs inspired by the All-School Picnic seem to suggest that the only thing better than departing for summer vacation in June is coming back to campus again for an August get-together that’s like no other.
