How to Apply to Pre-K / Kindergarten

We welcome your interest in Colorado Academy and look forward to getting to know you and your family.  We encourage you to save the morning of Friday, October 25, or Wednesday, October 30, for our annual Admission Parent Preview to learn more about our community.

The application portal for the 2020-2021 admission season will open in early September 2019.

Admission Checklist & Timeline

List of 8 items.

The application process for the 2020-2021 school year will open in early September.* The initial Application Form takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is due by December 15, or at least one week prior to an applicant's class visit.  There is no application fee.

*If you are reapplying from a past admission season, please submit a new application form and then contact us to review the requirements of the process.

Please note that separate forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. Click HERE to learn about the financial aid process.

As parents, you can provide us with insights about your child and your family that no one else can. Your statement will help us learn about your child and your family more personally.

Please note that the Parent Statement Form is available to you once you submit the initial student application form.  It is helpful, although not required, to have the Parent Statement completed prior to a student's visit.

Please contact Paige Siemers at 303-914-2513 to schedule a Parent Tour and/or Meeting.  You will receive an email confirming your appointment.

Parent Tour and Meeting: A Parent Tour and Meeting is typically scheduled at 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., or 1:30 p.m. on a school day.  Please allow for an hour and 45 minutes.

Parent Meeting Only: For parents familiar with CA or who have already toured (such as a current CA parent, or a parent who has attended/is attending Parent Preview), no additional tour is required. Please allow 40 minutes for the meeting with an admission counselor.

Please note: we can customize visits for families applying to more than one division (i.e., Lower, Middle or Upper School) so that the visit starts and ends at the same time for all applicants; please contact the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to arrange a multi-divisional Parent Interview and student visits.

Please contact Paige Siemers at 303-914-2513 to schedule an Applicant Playgroup Visit, or log in to the application portal and access the Pre-K and K playgroup schedule to register your child. Either way, you will receive an email confirming the visit.

Applicants to Pre-K or Kindergarten visit for approximately two hours during an applicant playgroup on a Saturday in December or January. Some developmental readiness assessment takes place during the visit, and the focus is on having fun and getting to know the applicant.

Please note that applicants to Pre-K must turn 4 years old by September 1, 2019; applicants to Kindergarten must turn 5 years old by September 1, 2019.

Please request the Teacher Recommendation and Transcripts from the appropriate faculty/staff at your child’s school.  CA accepts recommendations completed through the online application portal.

    Request Teacher Recommendation

For Applicants to Pre-K and Kindergarten: Developmental readiness is assessed by our teachers during the applicant visit, and no other formal testing is required.

Separate online forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. We recommend starting the Financial Aid process after January 1, and completing the process by February 15, to be considered in the first round of Financial Aid decisions.  Families applying after the February 15 deadline will be considered for the Financial Aid waitlist.

Learn More About the Financial Aid Process

The Admission Committee reviews all applications completed by the January 31 deadline.  CA informs families of Lower School admission decisions at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Please note: students applying after the March 5 notification date will be considered for admission from the wait pool if a space becomes available. There can be wait pool movement in the spring or summer, and we encourage you to apply if interested.
