Dear
Parents,
It’s almost over…..hard to
believe. I hope you have a nice Memorial
Day weekend. Virgil & I are going to
Telluride and the western Uncompahgre Plateau area, the only places in Colorado
I haven't seen. Now I'll be fully
qualified to teach Colorado Studies!!
FYI…
Ø Reading
is the thing! Last Thursday Mrs. Hiskey explained the
Lower School Library’s Summer Reading Program as well as reading opportunities
at public libraries. (The CA Library
Summer Reading Program is in addition to the Fourth Grade Summer Reading
assignment.) With these reading
opportunities in mind and the booklist from Scholastic, 3-A students can create
a Summer Reading Plan for themselves. I
will display all the Reading Plans the children bring back to school and then
put the plans in their Third Grade Notebooks.
Ø Copies
of your child's Writing Sample essays/stories are in the Friday Folder. Enjoy!
Ø A
Jungle Quest Waiver/Release is in the Friday Folder. Please sign & return before next Friday.
Throughout the week…
Ø Read
Aloud will focus on completing the adapted versions of The Iliad, The Odyssey,
and The Aeneid. We also will compare & contrast the
characteristics of an epic poem with other genres of literature.
Ø We’ll
review math pages in the Investigations workbooks.
Ø We’ll
start cleaning desks and bringing things home on Tuesday and Wednesday. Parting is such sweet sorrow…
What’s up for next week?
Tuesday~
Bring swimsuit & towel!
Ø
Swimming in PE.
Ø
Third Grade Notebook writing in the Computer Lab.
Ø
“A Literary Colorado” performance for Mrs. Miller & parents at
2:00 in the classroom.
-over-
Wednesday~
Bring your super-d-duper LUNCH!
Ø The 3-A
Class Party is for students & parents.
It's a hike to Woody’s Pond and a special time together as a class. The boys & girls will create awards for
each other, play team-building games, and eat their super-d-duper lunches. After our time at Woody’s Pond, we’ll return
to the classroom for ice cream sundaes.
Students bring their own “fun” sack lunches for the hike & party.
Ø Books
& Blankets will be spent reading historical fiction about colonial America. Children who finish these books will start
reading an adapted version of Beowulf.
Thursday~ Reading Calendar & Letter are DUE!
Ø Third graders need to master
Spelling Core Words 1-299 by the end of third grade. Words 1-200 were taught during first and
second grades, and we’ve worked on words 200-299 this past year. I have created a “Selected Inventory” of
words 1-299; these are the more difficult words that students need to spell
automatically. We’ll have a test on the
words from the “Selected Inventory 1-299” list on Thursday. Studying for the test is optional; the test
is meant as a review.
Ø The
boys & girls will make puzzles for next year’s 3-A class. They also will write letters of introduction
to the fourth grade teachers.
Ø Third Grade Notebook writing in
the Computer Lab.
Ø Friday Folders will be sent home
on Thursday.
Friday~ Last day to bring Jungle
Quest waiver/release!
