Third Grade Reading Homework
January through May
GENRE
READING
PROCEDURE
1. Choose a new genre to read each month. The genres are listed below.
2. Record the page number where you left off each night
on the Reading Calendar. You need to
read at least 20 minutes on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday nights.
3. When you finish your book, write a letter to Hallway Audience about the book you
chose. The format for the Reading
Response Letter is described below.
4. Turn in your letter.
If you turn in your letter before the end of the month, start reading
and recording page numbers for another book from any genre. You do not need to write a Reading Response
Letter for a second book.
READING RESPONSE LETTER
All letters will be posted
on our third grade bulletin board, so it must be your best writing. The letter can be typed or handwritten.
ü Write the date at the top of the page.
ü Use a greeting:
Dear Hallway Visitors, Dear
Hallway Readers, etc.
ü Letter should be at least three paragraphs long.
Paragraph #1: Choose a lead
from the list on the back and then write the paragraph.
Paragraph #2: Choose a
different lead from the list on the back and then write the paragraph.
Paragraph #3: I'd give this
book a rating of ____ (1-10 points) because…..
ü Include the book title and author in one of the
paragraphs.
ü Capitalize and underline the title of your book, i.e.,
Poppy and Rye.
ü Use a closing: Your
friend, Sincerely, etc.
