Technology

Colorado Academy uses technology as a tool to enhance learning and instruction, promote effective and responsible use of technology, and help students collaborate and create.

Students practice core technology skills across the curriculum. The natural integration of skills necessary to understand, choose, and troubleshoot technologies empowers students to transfer their knowledge and explore emerging technologies.

To ensure seamless technology integration, all Grade 3-12 students have an individual Colorado Academy account. In the Lower School, students are scheduled in the Wonder Workshop to learn specific skills such as keyboarding, basic applications, and programming.

In Middle and Upper School, our teachers use the latest technology tools to enhance the learning experience. Assignments, grades, resources, and other essential information are posted electronically to our password-protected website. Additionally, many teachers in Grades 5-12 use Google Classroom or Showbie to facilitate a paperless classroom by collecting, commenting, and returning work to students electronically.

Colorado Academy works to ensure students are properly and age-appropriately educated on the safe use of the internet, security, and privacy. A comprehensive Digital Citizenship program begins in Pre-K and continues through high school.

Responsible Social Media Use

The Colorado Academy network provides content filtering customized to each division to help prevent access to inappropriate material and resources. In addition, our network infrastructure will block access to known malware, spyware, and viruses.

Colorado Academy works with a number of third-party vendors (including Apple, Google, and Microsoft) to provide services to faculty and students. Colorado Academy reviews the privacy policies of all vendors to verify they meet standards that are acceptable to the school and appropriately protect the privacy of students.

Jared Katzman

Jared Katzman, Director of Technology, teaches a Computer Science class, handles password questions, policy issues, troubleshooting, and answers questions about iPads, the wireless network, and CA's technology program.
Laura Farmer

Laura Farmer came to CA in fall 2021as Educational Technology Specialist, helping students, teachers, and staff to apply technology to enhance their learning, instruction, and exploration, and fulfill their needs for more elegant, practical, or efficient ways to accomplish their objectives. In 2023, Farmer was named Director of Educational Technology. She was most recently Director of Online Student Programs at EXPLO, a nonprofit multi-campus summer program for students in Grades 2-12. Farmer is especially experienced in developing instructional strategies for remote learning, developing innovative curricula for technology-rich learning experiences, and coaching teacher efforts in technology integration. She holds a BS in Chemistry and an MAT in Secondary Science Education from the University of Virginia.
Travis Reynolds

Travis Reynolds came to Colorado Academy as the Lower School Technology/Makerspace teacher in fall 2021. His previous experience includes designing and utilizing user-centered innovation labs to engage students in Grades K-8 at the Turning Point School in Culver City, Calif. He introduces students to a range of hardware, software, and emerging technologies in the fields of robotics, coding, 3D printing, laser cutting, mobile app development, and virtual reality. Reynolds has also taught algebra and been a mentor, judge, and tournament director in FIRST Lego League. He holds BA in Hispanic Studies from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Rory Butler

Rory Butler has been at CA since 1999 as the technology department’s Network Administrator. He grew up in Phoenix, Ariz., and earned his degree in network management from Westwood College of Technology in Denver. Butler enjoys outdoor activities with his family.
Meghan Campagna

Meghan Campagna began a cross-divisional educational technology support and coach role in 2023. She helps faculty utilize technology effectively, collaborating with them to provide new ways of engaging student interest and agency. She came from a 1:1 MacBook school from Grade 6 through 12 and is an Apple Certified Teacher who can help others become more comfortable in a 1:1 device environment. Campagna most recently worked at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Fla. as a technology integration specialist, and she also taught global studies in their middle division. In addition, Campagna served as registrar and is highly skilled in working with all academic modules in Blackbaud, marking her the new go-to guide for faculty queries about our school database. Campagna holds a BA in History from Emory University and an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Florida. She is also an “Iron woman,” having finished the Ironman Chattanooga in 2014.
Jonathan Ender

Technology Support and iPad Specialist

Jonathan Ender grew up living in Maryland for nine years and another nine were split among the Philippines, Pakistan, and Egypt. He attended The Colorado College and the University of Denver, completing his BA in Digital Media Studies with a double minor in sociology and communications. After graduating, he worked at DU’s Learning Effectiveness Program as an academic counselor, as well as for the technology education nonprofit, Open World Learning (OWL). Ender completed his MA at DU in Curriculum & Instruction with a focus in Technology Education, in addition to obtaining his K-6 teaching license. He has been a K-12 computer/multimedia teacher, a Technology Curriculum Coordinator, and he joined the CA Technology Department in 2013 as a Technology Support Specialist. While he deals with all tech issues, he is the go-to person for any iPad questions/issues. One of Ender's passions/hobbies is photography, and his work can be seen in the Business Office in Welborn House, as well as the Tech Office upstairs in Raether Library.
Sara White

Sara White joined the Technology Department in spring 2023 in the role of Technology Specialist. She brings additional tech maintenance savvy to a department that has influence throughout CA, both in classroom technology and infrastructure. White’s skills include troubleshooting obstinate computers, printers, and software, while professionally and patiently explaining solutions to users. She is also a whiz at coding, website maintenance, and internet security best practices. White holds an AS degree in Applied Science and a BS in Computer Science.
