Colorado Academy Students Plan Holiday Event for 2,500 in Need

Students at Colorado Academy are making final preparations for CA’s largest service project of the year, Students H.O.P.E (Helping Other People Eat), which will take place Saturday, December 3, 2016 in CA’s Campus Center and Gymnasium, 3800 South Pierce Street in Southwest Denver from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Student leaders of the event say at least 500 more people have signed up than in past years. This year, a new partnership with Volunteers of America has increased the numbers of people that will be served.

For this 23rd year of the project, CA will help to transport, feed, clothe, and provide gifts, holiday activities, and flu shots for some 2,500 people from Denver shelters and service agencies in Denver.  H.O.P.E. is the largest student-run club on campus, and students have been working for months to collect clothing donations, financial gifts and more.  Approximately 100 students have helped to plan the event under the leadership of three high school seniors and two faculty advisors. Students run the daylong event.

Each child in attendance will receive a new, wrapped gift and a visit with Santa. Families also have the opportunity to select from gently-used clothing and pick up essential toiletries. They also take part in holiday games and a festive meal. Those in need of flu shots may get them on-site.
