Winter access to Maroon Hut in the historic Gothic town site is by ski or snowshoe only—4 miles one way on moderate terrain, or roughly 1.5-2 hours. The Maroon Hut boasts a full working kitchen, in-floor heat and running water. Depending on the time of year, early evening and early morning offers great opportunities to see alpenglow across Crested Butte and Gothic Mountains. The cost is $400 and includes transportation, accommodation, avalanche safety equipment, food, and instruction. Participants must provide backcountry skis, boots, and skins, or snowshoes.
