How to Apply to Pre-K / Kindergarten

We welcome your interest in Colorado Academy and look forward to getting to know you and your family! To start the application process, please click on the appropriate checklist below and note that some steps should be in progress concurrently. Please note that the deadline for all application materials is January 31 to be considered in the first round of admission decisions.

  • APPLICATION FORM

    Our initial application form for the 2017-2018 school year takes approximately ten minutes to complete and is due as soon as possible (or at least one week prior to an applicant's class visit).  There is no application fee.  Please note that once you begin the application, you may save your work and access it at any time by clicking the button below.

  • STUDENT VISIT

    Playgroups are comprised of approximately 10-15 applicants and last 90 minutes. Some developmental/readiness assessment will take place, but the focus is on having fun and getting to know the applicant. Please note that applicants to Pre-K must turn 4 by September 1, 2017, and applicants to Kindergarten must turn 5 by September 1, 2017. 

    Pre-K Playgroup Visit Dates:
    Saturday, January 7 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    Wednesday, January 18, from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

  • PARENT INTERVIEW/TOUR

    Parent interviews may be scheduled on most school days.  Please complete the Parent Interview and Tour prior to January 31 to be considered in the first round of admission decisions.

    Parent Tour and Interview: For parents new to the school, please allow for an hour and 45 minutes.

    Parent Interview Only: For parents familiar with CA (e.g., current CA parent, attended Parent Preview, or toured in the past), no additional tour is required. Please allow 40 minutes for the interview.

    Families applying to more than one division (i.e., Lower, Middle or Upper School), please contact the Admission Office at 303-914-2513 to arrange a multi-divisional parent interview and visits for your students.

  • PARENT STATEMENT

    As parents, you can provide us with insights about your child and your family that no one else can. Your statement will help us learn about your child and your family more personally.

  • TEACHER RECOMMENDATION

    A recommendation from your child's current teacher may be requested and submitted using our online provider:  schoolrecs.com.  Please send recommendation/transcript requests to the appropriate teacher at your child’s school.   The deadline for submitting completed recommendations and transcripts is January 31. CA accepts recommendations completed online through schoolrecs. This is our preferred method for receiving recommendation forms and transcripts. Schoolrecs.com notifies the recommenders and school administrators of due dates, communicates with the applicant when recommendations and transcripts have been completed, and allows recommendations to be sent electronically, confidentially, and securely.

  • APPLICANT TESTING (Kindergarten only)

    Colorado Academy requires the following testing for admission:

    For Applicants to Pre-Kindergarten: Developmental readiness is assessed by our teachers during the applicant playgroup visit, but no other formal testing is required.

    For Applicants to Kindergarten:  the AABL (Admission Assessment for Beginning Learners).  Please register your child here.  Colorado Academy offers the AABL on campus on January 10 and January 28; alternatively, you may register your child to take the AABL at another school and request that the results be sent to Colorado Academy (ERB code 060393).  The AABL testing fee is $65; please call the CA Admission Office to request assistance if the fee is a hardship.

  • FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION | DUE BEFORE Feb 15

    Separate online forms are required for admission and financial aid, though the application cycles overlap. We recommend starting the Financial Aid process after January 1, and completing the process by February 15, 2017, to be considered in the first round of Financial Aid decisions.

  • DECISIONS AVAILABLE | Mar 8 at 4 p.m. MST

    Lower School decisions for Pre-K through Grade 5 will be available online at 4:00 p.m. MST on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, by logging in to your online application.
