Lower School

Grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5

Experience teaches us that children progress best when excited about learning. That’s why teachers in Colorado Academy’s Lower School work with students in grades Pre-K through 5 to promote a love of learning and encourage opportunities for development of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and aesthetically.

At CA, we see childhood as a time of being and becoming. We seek to promote curiosity and wonder in children’s minds in order to create a solid foundation in elementary school for lifelong learning.

With guidance, patience, and wisdom, teachers promote self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-initiated learning; they support development of self-competence, encourage socialization, and facilitate group problem solving. From the primary years on, children learn and grow as students and individuals through classroom discipline, service and experiential learning. Students in each division benefit from our Pre-K through Grade 12 environment where young students are paired with older students for programming and mentoring, and where older students assume responsibility for those relationships with pride.

The Foundation for Lifelong Learning

CA’s Lower School curriculum combines a challenging liberal arts and sciences program with experiential and service learning activities that expand students’ minds and lay a foundation for lifelong learning.

Lisa Ulsh, Lower School Principal

We need to be mindful of our obligation to teach today in order to meet the future needs of our students. To move us toward this goal, we create a phrase, drawn from our school mission and values, to serve as touchstones for children, families, and faculty. Our work is punctuated by the theme: Imagine. Create. Grow . . . Together. I am excited at all the ways we are bringing this theme to life for students to help foster an excitement about learning.
