Academics
Inspiring a Desire to Think, Create, and Innovate
The staff and faculty of Colorado Academy are devoted to the development of people, nurturing students in a learning environment that values and rewards intellectual curiosity, originality, motivation, and teamwork. We place a premium on the development of resilience and resourcefulness – skills that will help prepare our students for an ever-changing world – and we are intentional about those practices that encourage integrity and responsibility in children.

Our academic facilities, which rival those of any private or independent school in the Denver and Colorado area, from computer labs to classrooms and from libraries to study nooks, are designed to inspire in students the desire to think, create, and innovate. Supported by a culture that reinforces relationships based on respect and appreciation between CA faculty and students, our students develop both academic strengths and a passion for lifelong intellectual engagement, especially with those pursuits related to STEAM, creativity, and innovation.

Alumni often tell us about experiences and relationships here that inspired them to look for more, and expect more, from their higher education and professional worlds.

Our Curriculum

Colorado Academy offers a balanced liberal arts and sciences program designed to provide students with increasing levels of challenge and responsibility as they move through their consecutive grades. The course descriptions provided under each division show an overall picture of what CA students are exploring and learning. The faculty has created units of study and topics encompassing the following elements:
  1. What will students discover and what are some essential questions to be explored?
  2. How might students approach answering those questions?
  3. Which skills will students learn and what technologies will they employ?
  4. How will students progress and mastery be measured?

The Six Cs

In every age group and through each discipline, we emphasize our Six Cs of 21st Century skills: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Cultural Competence, and Character Development. In the Middle and Lower Schools, we have named our efforts to intentionally teach students this skill set as the ThinkingLAB.
