CA Upper School Welcomes Freshmen

Colorado Academy’s Upper School officially welcomed the Class of 2020 Monday with student orientation, ice-breaker activities, and messages from the head of school, faculty, staff, student deans and CA upperclassmen.

While the orientation is designed to help students navigate everything from setting up their iPads to class locations to the dining hall, the day is also a tone-setter for the rest of the year. “My high school start was not nearly as exciting or as welcoming as this,” says one staff member.

Among the many messages is a letter that Upper School faculty members write together to the incoming freshmen; it is presented to students on orientation day.  Teachers give some practical advice, including about using calendars and day planners for time management, but also, some good life lessons about succeeding in high school and beyond.  “Believe in yourself, and don’t be shy about asking for help.” “Laugh and learn from your mistakes.” “Spend time with your family, your pets, go for a walk make something, breathe, have fun!”

Despite the day’s messages of high expectations and hard work, teachers reminded students, “Focus on the big picture” and on “what matters most: Your beautiful surroundings, the students and faculty who support you, and the many amazing opportunities you have here.”

School officially begins Tuesday, August 30.
