CA Students Attend Mock Trial State Tournament

UPDATED

Eleven Colorado Academy students participated in this weekend's Mock Trial state tournament at the El Paso County Courthouse in Colorado Springs.  The group placed 7th out of 24 and senior Katie Fink took home a best witness award.

Says Bill Carey, a long-time coach, "When it comes to the quality of our teams, there is no doubt: They are good."

The students participated in four separate rounds of the tournament, earning widespread accolades from judges and panelists alike for their thorough understanding of the case, the rules of procedure, as well as their professionalism.

Says the CA faculty sponsor of the program, Luis Terrazas, “Students exhibited a degree of confidence that reflected their longstanding commitment to the program.  Relying exclusively upon their extemporaneous speaking skills and the ability to think critically, they maintained a steady poise under pressure.”

In order to prepare, students attended mock trial summer camps, sought out extra coaching from the attorneys, and devoted countless weekends to refining their skills in anticipation of this tournament.

This was Colorado Academy's seventh appearance at the state tournament.
