CA's Fletcher Kerr Has a Day for the Record Books

Colorado Academy senior and Boys Tennis Team Captain Fletcher Kerr played two matches today at the 4A Regional Tennis Tourney (Region 1) and had a Golden Match in his first game against West High School, and in his second match, had a Golden Set in his game against Thomas Jefferson High School. A golden set is a set in which a player wins without dropping a single point. This is reportedly only second recorded time in CHSAA history that a student has put up a Golden Match.

When asked what made the difference, Kerr laughed it off and said he was simply playing well today. His coach Brian Singer, says Kerr has been playing well all season, with only two lost matches. Singer says as captain, Kerr has been setting the example, showing up first to practice, and being the last to leave. Singer also says this year is in contrast to the 2013 season when Kerr struggled. “He was on a losing streak last year; he lost to Cheyenne Mountain and took one of his racquets and broke it in the parking lot.”

Now, says Singer “You can just see his confidence. He quit taking himself so seriously, and he got back to having fun.” Singer says Kerr has been both a model student and model player.

Region 1 play continues on Thursday at Colorado Academy. The top two teams from each region will go on to the State Tournament.
