Documentary Showing at CA Confronts Racism

Sponsored by Colorado Academy, Alexander Dawson, Stanley British Primary School, Graland Country Day School, Kent Denver, St. Mary’s, and Denver Academy, there will be a showing of I Am Not a Racist… Am I?, a documentary detailing how the next generation will confront racism, on Saturday, October 18 at 4:30 p.m. in the Colorado Academy theatre and on Sunday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m. in the Knowles Lecture Hall in the CA Upper School. According to the director, the film is appropriate for students in grade 7 and above.

According to the website, I Am Not a Racist… Am I?, asks 12 teenagers from New York City to come together for one school year to talk about race and privilege in a series of workshops and conversations with friends and family members. The idea is to inspire others to recognize and interrupt racism in their own lives.

With that in mind, there will be an open forum after both showings for audience members to discuss their reactions and viewpoints—one that focuses on student participation on Saturday and one that focuses on teacher participation on Sunday.
