Technology in the classroom
Colorado Academy integrates practical applications of technology into the curriculum from the earliest ages. It is our goal that by the time students graduate from CA, they are well equipped to succeed in our high-tech, information-rich world.

Innovative technologies at work
Colorado Academy’s Technology Department has one of the state’s most innovative and comprehensive school programs. The department provides up-to-date equipment, training, and friendly, knowledgeable support to enable students, staff, and even parents to succeed in the digital age. Campuswide technology supports both Windows and Macintosh platforms, although all labs and libraries utilize the Windows XP operating system.

Student computer access
CA’s three up-to-date main computer labs—one in the Lower School, and two in the Raether Library—provide students with excellent opportunities for hands-on learning. In addition, both the Lower School Library and the Raether Library have computers for student and faculty use. There are two mobile wireless labs, each with 20 laptops for classroom and field use by both the Upper and Middle School teachers and their students. The Lower School boasts two 10-laptop wireless mobile labs for classroom use.

Technology staff
The Technology Department employs four full-time staff members, a part-time technology administrative assistant and a part-time technology support specialist. The fulltime positions include the Director of Technology and MS Technology Coordinator, Network Administrator, US Technology Coordinator and LS Technology Coordinator. All of the coordinators teach classes in their respective divisions as well as assist CA students, faculty, and staff with their technology projects.

Technology teaching aids
All classroom teachers have laptop computers and projectors to assist them with presentations and productivity. Many teachers regularly use these tools to access the Internet, exchange papers with students via email, post homework on a web page, or give relevant presentations. Several teachers in the lower school regularly use Activboards (interactive whiteboards) in their teaching. Some Middle and Upper School teachers use Smart Boards and others have recently begun to use clickers, interactive handheld response devices. An electronic gradebook, which interfaces with our student records system, is used in all divisions.
