Welcome to Lower School: Pre-Kindergarten - Fifth Grade “Learning is a spectacular journey. It is no less amazing for those who chart the course. The skillful teacher requires unending patience, enthusiasm without bounds, and extraordinary creativity. We see the evidence of this through the eyes of children who are joyful, inquisitive, eager, and insightful.” Fran Trujillo, Lower School Principal
Experience teaches us that children progress best when excited about learning. That’s why teachers in CA’s Lower School work to promote a love of learning and encourage opportunities for development of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and aesthetically.
At CA, we see childhood as a time of being and becoming. We seek to promote curiosity and wonder in children’s minds in order to create a solid foundation for lifelong learning.
With guidance, patience, and wisdom, teachers promote self-esteem and self-initiated learning, support development of self-competence, encourage socialization, and facilitate group problem solving. Children learn and grow as students and individuals through classroom disciplines, community service, and experiential learning.
Curriculum The Foundation for Lifelong Learning CA’s Lower School curriculum combines a challenging liberal arts and sciences program with experiential and community service activities that expand students’ minds and lay a foundation for lifelong learning.
